[English]

This study adopts a cognitive linguistic approach to analyze and compare image schemas in Balochi proverbs and Khuzestani Arabic sayings. The research aims to identify the frequency of schemas in both languages and to clarify the degree of cultural affinity between the two communities. After cognitive coding, the data were examined across seven schemas: directional, container, motion, ability, power, similarity, and connection. Quantitative findings reveal that Khuzestani Arabic proverbs generally display higher frequencies of image schemas than Balochi proverbs. For example, the directional schema appears (1.64%) in Arabic (0.35%) in Balochi; the container schema (0.88%) in Arabic (0.27%) in Balochi; the motion schema (0.66%) in Arabic (0.15%) in Balochi; and the power schema (0.88%) in Arabic (0.50%) in Balochi. The schemas of ability, similarity, and connection occur less frequently in both languages. Qualitative analysis indicates that both languages conceptualize abstract meanings through shared lived experiences, with directional, power, and container schemas most prominent in representing ethical, behavioral, and social concepts. These findings highlight notable cultural and cognitive affinities despite linguistic differences..
