[English]

Neo-imperialism emphasizes not only political and economic domination but also cultural control, reproducing hegemony through othering, historical distortion, and symbolic occupation of spaces. Sahar Khalifeh’s novel Rabi' Harr (A Hot Spring), narrating a Palestinian family’s life in the Ein al-Murjan refugee camp, demonstrates how territorial occupation is accompanied by cultural occupation. This research, using a descriptive-analytical method and contrapuntal reading derived from Edward Said’s Culture and Imperialism, examines colonial geography and cultural resilience in Palestinian narrative literature. The method relies on reciprocal reading of two narrative layers: domination and resistance. The primary objective is to explain mechanisms of domination and resistance in Rabi' Harr. Given ongoing occupation and identity crisis in Palestinian society, analyzing fiction’s capacity to preserve cultural identity and transmit collective memory can open new horizons for understanding literature’s role in liberation movements and cultural resistance. Findings indicate that Rabi' Harr represents occupation not merely as military domination but as a discursive process for seizing mind, memory, and identity. On one hand, domination operates through cultural castration, forced geographical division, and symbolic siege of cities. On the other hand, resistance redefines actions such as photography and singing, shifting the locus of resilience from politics and militarism to memory-making and symbolic recreation of identity. This contrapuntal reading reveals a new paradigm: transition from traditional political resistance to the politics of representation, and redefinition of literature’s role as an agent for identity survival against gradual erasure. Ultimately, this reading underscores literature’s enduring capacity to resist erasure and reconstruct meaning.
